Whether you are a keen golfer, fisherman, hill walker, historian or simply a shopaholic, Muckhart and its central location has the lot for you!

Golfing:
  • What more can you ask for but a golf course in Muckhart village. Muckhart Golf Club boasts a beautiful parkland course, offering an 18 hole course and 9 hole course. Visitors are always welcome. Tel: 01259 781423.

  • Clackmannanshire also hosts courses in Dollar, Tillicoultry, Sauchie, Alloa and Alva. There are also many excellent courses in the Stirling area, or try the Brucefields family golf centre which, as well as its own course, has a driving range, practice facilities and club house.

  • Muckhart is only 9 miles from Gleneagles, home of the elite King's and Queen's courses as well as the PGA Centenary course built by Jack Nicklaus for the forthcoming 40th Ryder Cup in 2014.

  • St. Andrews Old Course, home to many a hard fought Open, is 35 miles from Muckhart, and Carnoustie, home of the Open 2007 tournament, is merely an hour away.

Fishing:
  • The Inn at Muckhart has been known to ring with many a fisherman's tale. The Muckhart area has four local fisheries: Glenquey reservoir (permits available at the Inn); Castlehill reservoir; Glensherrup reservoir; and Lower Frandy reservoir all offer excellent trout fishing.

  • For those wishing to venture a little further, there is Gartmorn Dam in Sauchie, Orchil Fishery near Gleneagles, Swanswater by Stirling, and the Lake of Monteith on the picturesque road to Aberfoyle.

Hill Walking:
  • The Ochil hills stretch for 20 miles and rise to over 2,300 feet with views as far as the Forth Bridges, The Cairngorms and Fife. There are walks to suit all abilities in these picturesque surroundings.

  • For those who enjoy taking in breathtaking scenery there is the Rumbling Bridge Gorge nearby or the scenic hilltop location of The Castle Campbell in Dollar.

Sightseeing:
  • Muckhart's central location means that you are ideally placed to enjoy the abundant Scottish history contained in Stirling Castle, the Wallace Monument, Alloa Tower, The Royal Mile, Edinburgh Castle, and Scone Palace to name but a few.

  • Or why not enjoy the spectacle of the Edinburgh Military tattoo or the The Fringe Festival...the possibilities are endless!

Horse riding:
  • There are several equestrian centres in the local area including Rumbling Bridge, Fishcross by Alloa, and the reknowned Gleneagles Equestrian Centre.

Quad biking:
  • For the more adventurous at heart, the next village of Glendevon has an off road centre where you can see some of the region's most spectacular scenery in a very unusual way. Tel: 01259 781229.
